Our collections (so-called collections) originate from various persons and institutes, who, independent of the civil war in Syria, was fascinated, recognized and documented the material as well as immaterial natural and cultural heritage Syria at an early stage.
Since 2013, more than 150.000 digital copies have been recorded and processed so far.
From this considerable pool, we present a small selection of the photo collections, which have thankfully been entrusted to the Syrian Heritage Archive Project.
The museum’s own collections were able to scan historical medium-format glass slides about Syria from the beginning of the 20th century, mainly by Friedrich Sarre, founding director of the Museum of Islamic Art. These collections also include photos by Oscar Reuther, Kurt Erdmann, Marwan Musalmani, Edda Müller and others.
Syrian collectors will bring large volumes into the archive at a later date.
