With the Syrian Heritage Initiatives, the Museum of Islamic Art is dedicated to Syria’s unique material and immaterial cultural heritage as a visionary and initiator.
The total of five projects focuses their intensive research and archive work on different focal points in the documentation and provision of various materials. They provide the basis for future reconstruction and, thanks to a new online portal, enable the diverse participation of a wide range of actors.
The efforts of the Museum of Islamic Art to document and communicate the Syrian cultural heritage were particularly recommended in the category ‘International Award’ under the title ‘Syria Initiative – Museum as Mediator of Shared Heritage’ in the context of the Museum+Heritage Awards 2018.
At the award ceremony in London, it was the only institution to receive a “special recognition” in the category “International Award” (more on this under News).
The projects will be led by the Director of the Museum of Islamic Art, Prof. Dr. Stefan Weber.
