The remains of Emar/Barbalissos/Balis/Maskana al-Qadîma have sunk into the Euphrates reservoir except for a few remains (photos 1410 and 1411 by Peter Heiske). The minaret of Balis was moved to a higher place in a south-western direction (not far from the village of Hittin) to save it.
